Celebrate World Sexual Health Day this September 4th!
“Love, bonding and Intimacy in sexual health, a possibility for all”
Sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being related to sexuality; it is not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence. For sexual health to be attained and maintained, the sexual rights of all persons must be respected, protected and fulfulled.
World Health Organization, 2002, 2006
For the 8th continuous year, the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS) and its member and related organizations, governmental and NGO’s, celebrate World Sexual Health Day on September 4th, 2017. This is an effort to promote increasing social awareness about sexual health around the world and the WAS Declaration of Sexual Rights.
Sexuality is a central aspect of being human throughout life and encompasses sexm gender identities and roles, sexual orientation, eroticism, pleasure, intimacy, and reproduction. It is not only or necessarily about genital contact.
The initiative this year is to focus on the emotional aspects of sexuality and the human desire for bonding. Expressions and enjoyment of love and intimacy are quite diverse and must be recognized, respected and protected.
The World Association for Sexual Health invites everyone to join the celebration in every country and/or to organize their own festivities through conferences, workshops, symposia, activities for the public or specific audiences, participation in the media or fundraising events for their organization and WAS.
